Men’s Health Week launches today and this year’s campaign focuses on raising awareness of diabetes in men.

More than three million people in the UK are living with Type 2 diabetes – and it’s estimated that a further 12 million people are at an increased risk of developing the condition. A major risk factor for Type 2 diabetes is being overweight, especially if you carry excess weight around your middle.

Men are now more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes than women, with studies showing they’re also more likely to experience life-changing consequences, such as damage to the heart, eyes and kidneys.

The good news is that losing weight can substantially reduce the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes.
