Happy birthday, food range! The Slimming World Free Food range is the big 5 today – and look how much it’s grown… From launching with a small but perfectly formed selection of 8 meals and 3 meats, the food range now includes a whopping 30 meals, 6 meat products, 6 brand-new lunch bowls, 5 sides, 3 soups, 3 sauces – and a partridge in a pear tree (not really, but we have chicken, jackfruit, fish and more)!
To celebrate our fantastic Free Food range, we thought we’d hand over to Allison Brentnall, Slimming World’s head of food and publications. Allison looks after our brilliant recipe book collection and Slimming World’s yummy Hi-fi bars, and, of course, she’s been at the helm of the food range, steering it in a super-convenient, slimming-friendly direction from the very start. Who better to tell us more about why Slimming World decided to go down the frozen food range route? Over to you, Allison…
“Going right back to the beginning, as with everything we do at Slimming World, the food range was developed with our members in mind. Although making healthy, filling meals from scratch is, and always will be, at the heart of Food Optimising, our members were telling us that sometimes life gets in the way.
We all have days when we’re working late, or ferrying the kids to after-school clubs, or we just want to get home and flop on the sofa! It’s on days like these that some of our members feel a Syn packed ready meal or takeaway is the only option.
As always, we were listening, and that’s why we decided to team up with leading frozen-food innovator Iceland to offer a range of meals, burgers, bangers, soups, sides and sauces – and now our brand-new Lunch Bowls. There really is something for everyone in the food range – from tasty curries for that takeaway fix, to Slimming World chips and satisfying soups. All packed with quality ingredients, served in the generous portion sizes that our members expect, and completely Syn free!
We’re all about choice-power at Slimming World, and our Food Optimising plan is designed to be as flexible as possible. The Slimming World Free Food range fits perfectly with that, offering our members a variety of frozen options – all completely Free – that make it easy to keep your slimming goals on track, however busy life might get.”
What’s new this month?
Bowl in one!
Discover a brand-new food range concept this month… Our gorgeous grab-and-go Lunch Bowls are guaranteed to bowl you over! These perfectly portioned bowls are packed with exciting lunchtime ideas – from naked beef burrito to Moroccan-style couscous (vegan) to mushroom risotto (vegetarian). They also contain at least one-third Speed Free Food, making them fantastic weight loss-boosting freezer friends.
What’s especially exciting about the new Lunch Bowls is that they can be safely defrosted in the fridge before heating and eating (from the bowl, if you like!) – so they make a brilliantly balanced, ultra-convenient lunch option for work.
All about the veg
We’re rooting for veggies this month, with three limited-edition vegetable side dishes, a vibrant veg-packed main and some chunky sweet potato chips – all vegan-friendly!
Bright and beautiful…
Rainbow bolognese
This dish adds a colourful twist to classic spag bol, with beetroot pasta, spiralised carrot and regular spaghetti, all smothered in a rich and tomatoey lentil ragu.
Sweet potato chips
Fancy a change from Slimming World chips? Take a bite on the sweet side with this tasty sweet potato version.
Speedy sides…
The food range birthday isn’t the only special occasion this month. We’re also partying our way through our Free Food Festival at Slimming World – and you’ll have spied lots of activity on the blog to applaud the all-round amazingness of Free Food.
To celebrate both these brilliant big events, we’ve launched three shiny new speedy sides, each one carefully designed to complement our mouth-watering meals and give veg some extra va-va-voom. But be quick – these sexy bits on the side are strictly limited edition and won’t be around forever!
Mediterranean-style vegetables
Add a side of sunshine to our Italian-influenced delights.
Roasting root vegetables
A hearty side for our classic comfort-food dishes.
Soy & chilli greens
