I’d been overweight since I was a teenager, dabbling with Slimming World on and off through the years. It wasn’t until I lost my dad in September 2022 that I realised I had to get fit and healthy for good. He’d died from a blockage to his heart, and I didn’t want my two children, Amelia-Rose and George, to worry about me getting ill.

When I joined my local Slimming World group in January 2024, I was determined to make it the last time I’d start again. Everyone there was so lovely and supportive, and it wasn’t long before I was tucking into tasty Food Optimising meals and losing weight every week.

As well as planning ahead, what really made the difference for me this time was cooking the same food for the whole family. There was no need for me to make separate things for myself – with so many recipes to choose from, it was easy to whip up healthy versions of our favourites, like lasagne.

A new Body Magic chapter

I used to suffer terribly with leg pain and shin splints when I exercised, and it meant I couldn’t keep up with the kids.

Once I began losing weight, though, the pain eased – and something clicked. When the opportunity came up to take a football coaching course at Amelia Rose’s under-8s team, I went for it! Now I run a mixed team,  and I’ve never looked back. I’m fully involved in the training every week, and at matches on Saturdays.

I’ve managed a women’s rounders team for many years, and since I’ve lost weight, my game has massively improved. In 2024, I was the top scorer and player of the year!

Overall, we’re just so much more active as a family – and nowadays, my kids struggle to keep up with me, rather than the other way around 😃.
